(pic taken standing @ bar looking towards future family room)
We have been making lots of progress in the basement – it has been TONS of work!!! Our house is a 4900 sq ft rambler, so half of that is basement! Thats a lot of space to work on @ once!
We have finished up most of the big projects, we just have the face and sides of the bar to build and then the fireplace and built-ins @ the end of the room where the ladders are. We want to get all this done before we start buying furniture – so i cant wait to get started!
We did a board and batten treatment in most areas of the basement and i love how light and bright it makes everything – plus half our basement is daylight since we dug out our backyard, so we have lots of natural light.
Above pic is standing in the middle of the room looking @ the bar. The face of the bar will be decked out in lots of molding and painted black and our new countertop will be installed in a couple weeks!
By the time that we built the bar part, the back cabinet was looking a little dwarfed, so i built up the cabinet by adding an additional 10 inches to the bottom – I will add a little molding to that as well and paint it all black to match.
The bar is 11 ft long with 2 cabinets and then 2 fridges. We have installed all the ikea butcher block cabinets and will be staining them this weekend – i have received some emails about the staining process, so i will be sure to post that when its complete.
To the right of the bar, is a small nook that we used for a full kitchen. I will be putting some type of open shelving above the cabinets.
To save room in the kitchen, we recessed the fridge into the wall. The back of the fridge is in the utility room so there was lots of space in there that we can use. Then we just added molding around it to customize it a little more.
Above pic is the middle of the room and this is where the pool table will be!! Cant wait!!
This is where the family room will be going. Im really excited to get this done because i think we will be using this room a lot. The built ins will be our last big project – we are just trying to figure out fireplace options now before we start anything.
This is the hallway where my craftroom, the kids playroom and the gameroom are. I love the big open hallway and will love it even more when i get all the french doors painted white this weekend and get those hung!
…………………
So thats where we are at now! Im so excited that we have gotten this far and the big messes are over! We still have lots of touchup, cleaning and caulking to do this weekend but we are going to take a little break from the big projects and start work again in a couple weeks.

WOW! I am in love!! Amazing job!
Where did you purchase the free standing island with all the drawers from? (kitchen)
What a fabulous space!
Wow! The floors are my fav so far.
<3
Love it. Great work as always!
I am totally blown away! What an incredible space!
Oh, my, goodness. You are a machine! LOVE the basement. Wish I loved closer so I could hang out with you guys in there!
Wow… nice space. Love all the extra special detail!
what brand refrigerator did you use downstairs. We are remodeling a house we bought and I am wanting a bottom freezer fridge like the one you chose. Just wondering which one you chose and why. Thanks.
the brand is Maytag. We have the same type of fridge upstairs (different brand though) – but we love the set up. The downstairs fridge will primarily be used for family parties and stuff, so its important that we can easily fit in big food platters and trays and we have found with our upstairs fridge, thats the easiest set up for that. I hate side by sides, there is no room for stuff like that at all. And with the freezer on the bottom, it just seems more convenient since you use the freezer less often that the fridge.
WOW!!! That’s beautiful!! :)
Love it. Wish it was mine. I’m feeling a little bit of jealousy! Happy for you!
you wont be jealous when i have to clean it all, and then you can take it!! :)
On your walls how do you do the board and batten treatment. What is the large white space? Sheetrock or some type of lumber. Thank you.
i will do a tutorial on it soon…but the large white space is just the original sheetrock painted white
Love the island! Did you build it?
nope, got it from an auction. the only thing i know about it, was that it was imported from europe :)
I love your basement! Please put up the tutorial soon on board and batten! You are so inspiring!
i know, i know!! I need to get that done and posted!!
I swear my basement is the exact same layout as yours. I’m in Herriman, can I come spy? JK
This is exactly what I was looking for in my Pinterest search, an open concept basement. Thanks for posting. I’m dying to see this finish project!!
THANK YOU!
it wont be finished for a very long time—-who even knows when we will get to the good stuff like furniture and decor – probably not until the winter before we start again down there :)
