I cant believe I didn’t get a before pic of this table, it was falling apart and almost had to be trashed. But it was old and chippy, just how I like’m.
I was painting another table white, so I thought I would paint this one at the same time. After it was dry, I distressed it with a sanding block. I didn’t sand the table real great before painting it, so that way when I distressed it the new paint would flake off and look chippy.
But, I wasn’t feeling the bright white, it was too plain and had no “umpfh”. So I grabbed some Kona stain by Rustoleum and slathered it on and then wiped it off. (think I need a manicure?!)
I was thinking that when I wiped it off, it would give me a creamy tannish color. But, instead I got this awesome pinky, gray color that I love!! It totally fits the table and has that vintage feel. I cant wait to try this on a bigger piece of furniture. Its such a unique color. I love when things like this happen – happy accidents :)
When I was all done wiping the stain off, I clear coated it with Wood Classics poly by Sherwin Williams in a gloss. By the way, the top is also stained with the same colored stain.
I love the top – I didn’t sand off all the old finish, I really wanted the table to look worn. So after I restained the top, I sanded off a lot of the stain to show the old stain underneath.
I did list this table for sale @ Sweet Pickins, but I really think it would look awesome on my front porch, so im kinda hoping it stays :)
AND, I finished my first “home” project of 2012! Its awesome (well, at least I think so!) and cant wait to show it, I will be back Sunday with that post. I posted this pic on my Facebook Page – can you guess what it is?! Sorry – super bad cropped photo from my phone!
LOVE LOVe Love the Kona!! I use it all the time–and I love happy accidents–but not unhappy accidents. ;) You always do the best job. BTW-everyday I covet your new shop. ;)
Love it when that happens :) That table is gorgeous, and if I were you I'd be sad to see it go too!
I LOVE happy accidents. This one is awesome! I love that table. Looks fantastic. Thank you so much for always posting; I learn SO much from you. If I lived close to you, I'd be buying EVERYthing you create. It's probably good that I need to do my own work. ;)
